Overnight fire burns garage in the Shadle neighborhood of north Spokane

An overnight fire in the Shadle neighborhood destroyed a garage and parked car before firefighters quickly doused the flames, according to a news release.

Spokane Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a home in the 5000 block of North Stevens Street, near Franklin Park, just after midnight Sunday, according to the news release. Crews from the department and Spokane Fire District 9 extinguished the blaze in five minutes, but the garage and a nearby parked car were destroyed.

The home was evacuated as a precaution, but residents were allowed to return Sunday morning. Some homes in the area lost electricity briefly after power lines caught fire, according to the fire department.

No injuries were reported. An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
