Sheriff’s office makes two arrests stemming from last week’s Spokane Valley carjacking

Local law enforcement has made two arrests in relation to a Sept. 24 carjacking in Spokane Valley.

Deputies were called to the area of South Manifold Road at about 6:30 after reports of a carjacking, according to court records.

A woman said she was driving her boyfriend’s car when a man she recognized, identified as 25-year-old Corey Huska, flagged her down and became upset when she did not have supplies to inject drugs.

Huska then opened her car door and seized the keys, according to court documents. The woman said three other people then approached the car as they pulled bandanas over their faces.

As she started to grab belongings from her car to flee, she said a man pulled her out of the car and onto the ground by her hair, according to court documents. Then the man and another person began assaulting her while she was on the ground and two other people rummaged through her car.

The victim said another woman, identified as Haley Bunkelman, 19, punched her in the face about three times when she tried to get up from the ground and scream for help, according to court documents.

The group of people allegedly drove off in the victim’s car, which contained her purse, cell phone, wallet, backpack and stereo equipment, according to court documents. The victim borrowed a teenager’s phone to call 911.

The stolen car was located at 19800 Pheasant Drive the next day with its wheels removed and the trunk open, according to court documents.

Police arrested Huska on Friday evening. He is suspected of robbery and possessing a stolen vehicle. His bail was set at $50,000 in Spokane County Superior Court Monday.

Bunkelman was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery.

Huska has seven local felony convictions, including assault and theft, and Bunkelman has six, including a theft charge.

Two other suspects in the carjacking who were named in court documents have not been arrested, according to jail records.
