Spokane police arrest man with self-inflicted gunshot wound for unlawful possession of a firearm

Police jailed a convicted felon for unlawful possession of a firearm after the man shot himself in the leg Tuesday.

The shooting happened at a residence in the 3900 block of Stone Street, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.

Witnesses reported Nathan Brown, 48, had shot himself in the leg. Officers found Brown sitting in a chair on the sidewalk and they provided first aid, according to the release. Police also found a gun on the kitchen counter.

Responders transported Brown to an area hospital for the non-life threatening gunshot injury.

An Officer went to the hospital to get Brown’s clothing and the bullet. When he was securing those items as evidence, he found a spent cartridge in the pocket of Brown’s overalls and a spring loaded knife in Brown’s clothing. Spring activated knives are illegal in Washington State.

It is illegal for convicted felons to possess a firearm.
