Man shot in the head at house party dies in hospital

Two 21-year-old men face murder charges after a man they are suspected of shooting in the head  after an early Thursday morning party near Chief Garry Park died after a brief stay in the hospital.

James E. Kemple and Ivan D. Liles are now facing second-degree murder charges, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.

Officers responded at about 1:20 a.m. to reports of the shooting on the 3300 block of East Carlisle Avenue. Witnesses told police the victim had been shot during an argument and partygoers brought him to the hospital before officers arrived, the release said.

Police arrested Kemple and Liles in the front yard of a home in the 1700 block of West Boone Avenue after officers watched the residence and confirmed they were inside, according to the release.

Based on a search of the Boone Avenue house and further investigation, police may file more charges, the release said.
