Lake City upsets Post Falls

The Lake City boys basketball team knocked off Post Falls 51-46 to capture the 5A Region I championship and a state berth.

CdA rallies for threepeat

Coeur d’Alene, trailing 36-29 going into the fourth quarter, used a 12-0 run to propel a stirring 51-45 comeback win in the State 5A championship game.

The Lewiston led 22-15 at halftime over Coeur d’Alene in the State 5A championship game.

The lead should be bigger for the Bengals. CdA played poorly in the first half, making just 5 of 23 shots from the field. Senior guards Dayna Drager and Amanda Buttrey were a combined 0 for 9.

The Viks’ post Carli Rosenthal has 10 points. Lewiston guard Jessica Kramer has nine.

Priest River girls capture title

The Priest River girls basketball team topped Kellogg 45-33 in the State 3A final at the Idaho Center in Nampa.

CdA, Lewiston girls in final

As predicted in my column Thursday, the Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston girls basketball teams will face off Saturday in the State 5A championship game. Tipoff is at 7 PST and can be seen live on Idahosports.com.

Coeur d’Alene held off Highland 48-39 and Lewiston rallied from a 15-point deficit to down Centennial 57-52 in overtime.

CdA overcomes fouls, Boise

Final: CdA 47, Boise 37

The Coeur d’Alene girls basketball team played some of its best defense of the year and weathered foul trouble as the second-ranked Vikings knocked off No. 1-ranked Boise 47-37 in a State 5A tournament opener Thursday afternoon at the Idaho Center in Nampa.

Freshman Kendalyn Brainard and senior Amanda Buttrey led the Vikings (20-4) with 13 points apiece.

In a State 3A opener, Kellogg topped Marsh Valley 45-37.

In a State 4A opener, Rigby defeated Moscow.

Idaho: state girls hoops

I’m at the Idaho state girls basketball tournaments in the Boise area. Just a quick note to let you know that all of the 5A, 4A and 3A games will be streamed live at Idahosports.com

All the 2A, 1A Division I and 1A Division II games will have audio feeds.

I’ll post updates from the tournament periodically.

Lewiston girls end drought

The Lewiston High girls downed Coeur d’Alene 53-41 on Tuesday in the 5A Region 1 tournament title game at Booth Hall to earn their first trip to state since 1989. Read on for my story from Lewiston.

Just returned from a week-long furlough. I’ve actually been away from the preps longer than that when you consider I had three glorious days staffing figure skating the week prior to my furlough.

Lots of stuff going on, obviously, and February means we’ve reached postseason for some teams with district and regional tournaments looming for others.

I’m in the process of tracking down all the district/regional info for girls and boys basketball and wrestling for Spokane and North Idaho leagues.
