Forty-nine percent of voters identify President Obama as a Christian, a new poll says, and the others say that they don't know or that he is a Muslim. "Nearly four years into his presidency the view that Barack Obama is Muslim persists," says the survey from the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life. According to the poll on religion and politics, 17% say Obama is a Muslim, while 31% say they do not know his religion. "Fewer say Obama is Christian — and more say he is Muslim — than did so in October 2008, near the end of the last presidential campaign," Pew reported. "The increase since 2008 is particularly concentrated among conservative Republicans, about a third of whom (34%) describe the president as a Muslim"/David Jackson, USA Today. More here. (AP photo)
Question: If President Obama says he's a Christian, that's good by me. How about you?
Legislators have made more than their share of bad policy this year. Now they're just making stuff up. Consider this little joke that appeared recently on Rep. Marv Hagedorn's Facebook page. "The Islamic coalition supporting the UN efforts in Libya is having a tough time identifying an Islamic leader suitable to take over when Gaddafi (sic) is overthrown. A retired Navy friend suggested we give them ours…" Get it? President Obama's a Muslim. Yuk, yuk. OK, it wasn't Hagedorn's joke. But the Meridian Republican (pictured) found it amusing enough to spread around/Kevin Richert, Idaho Statesman. More here.

I draw attention to the current Coeur d’Alene Press poll with fear and trembling because I chastised individuals this morning for the ongoing “birther” argument in some of the threads at Hucks Online. However, I can’t ignore the question or the answers so far: “What do you think of people who think President Obama is a Muslim and/or not a legal U.S. resident?” At this point, 51% of the respondents marked: “I think they’re right.” 40% have marked: “I think they’re sycophants (which means: “a person who seeks favor by flattering people of wealth or influence” and isn’t exactly the right word). 10% said “I don’t think anything at all.” I’m amazed how many question Obama’s legitimacy and refuse to believe his statements that he’s a Christian. I’m also amazed that individuals who question his birth would be willing to risk splitting this country further apart by being proven right and toppling him. (AP file photo)
Question: What do you make of the Coeur d’Alene Press poll? (BTW, I expect this thread to stay above board and will monitor it to ensure just that)
Sixty percent of listeners who responded to an online survey by the Boise radio station say President Barack Obama is a Muslim, more than twice the figure in a recent national poll. Fifty-five percent of respondents to the non-scientific poll said Obama is a foreign-born Muslim and 5 percent said he is a native-born Muslim. Another 5 percent said Obama was Christian, but foreign born. KBOI host Nate Shelman said Tuesday afternoon that 716 respondents replied to the online poll Monday and Tuesday. During Monday’s show, Shelman discussed a Newsweek poll that found 24 percent of respondents said Obama was a Muslim/Follower of Islam/Dan Popkey, Idaho Statesman. More here.
