Latest from The Spokesman-Review
Media day approaching this afternoon so we'll get caught up with last night's S-R content from the Zags' 86-76 win over North Dakota State.
My game story, John Blanchette's column (complete with dump truck and Nuke LaLoosh references), Jacob Thorpe's article on NDSU and Dexter Werner, the Walter brothers' one-and-done road trip, and Colin Mulvany's photos. Bison coverage here.
North Dakota State is one of the better stories in college basketball, on and off the court.
On the court, the Bison, under the guidance of first-year coach Dave Richman, are back in the NCAA tournament despite losing six seniors from last year's NCAA squad. Off the court, well, not totally off the court, NDSU has been displaced by renovations to the Bison Sports Arena, prompting them to use alternative facilities, including a vacant grocery store, to conduct their day-to-day business.
More on how NDSU has made the best of the situation here.
There were far too many big plays and outstanding individual performances during Eastern Washington’s 38-31 overtime FCS playoff win over North Dakota State to fit into Sunday’s S-R, so I’ve cobbled together some additional post-game quotes and links to related stories below.
Read on. But before you do, check out these game photos shot by S-R photographers.
EWU used a late-game 90-yard drive to tie North Dakota State and then knocked off the Bison 38-31 at Roos Field on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs, where they will host defending national champion Villanova next Friday or Saturday.
You can get an early look at the game story that will appear in Sunday morning’s S-R here, and you can see what EWU’s sports information department posted about the game here. I’ve also included this link to what the Big Sky Conference office had on the game.
And be sure to check back tomorrow for more links to related stories, along with some additional comments from players and coaches involved in Saturday’s quarterfinals thriller.
And, along with this link
When North Dakota State’s Matt Anderson lines up at his weak-side linebacker position in Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. FCS playoff game against Eastern Washington at Roos Field, he will do so with an ever-growing appreciation for the sport he loves.
Anderson, a 6-foot-2, 233-pound senior, whose junior year was cut short by a neck injury, has made it all the way back to become a major contributor, once again, to the Bison defense. And you can read the story on his comeback that appeared in Thursday morning’s S-R here.
In addition, I’ve included this link to John Blanchette’s column on EWU’s senior two-time all-American J.C. (Jed Clampett?) Sherritt that ran in Wednesday’s S-R.
