Keeping the Spirit
When all the other girls in her high school opted to do other school activities, Tearsa Powell stepped forward to keep her school’s team spirit alive.
A sophomore at Wilbur-Creston, Tearsa is the high school’s only cheerleader. At Thursday’s the Wash. State B Basketball Championships, Tearsa cheered for the Wildcat boy’s basketball team alone from the floor. “We have a small school," said Tearsa who wanted to be a cheerleader since she was a little girl. She said most of the girls in her high school rather play basketball then cheer for the team. Tearsa’s mom, Robin Powell, is her coach and herself a former college cheerleader.
Tearsa's spirited cheering help lead her Wildcat team to victory over the Mt. Vernon Christians 62-49 Thursday morning in the Spokane Arena.
