Lewis and Clark High School's music program benefits from an active parental support group today, but more than a century ago a 9-foot Steinway piano was donated by the 1912 senior class. In 1924, a school-wide fundraiser resulted in a new pipe organ. Both of these instruments are still in use. Other schools aren't as lucky. If the school is in a poorer neighborhood, major donation are almost unheard of.
