No. 2 GU passing chemistry test
A bit of a rough start to senior week for two GU seniors who will play in their final home game Saturday against Portland. Elias Harris took a shot to the nose and Guy Landry Edi a blow to the chin about 10 minutes apart in Monday's practice. Harris needed a handful of stitches to close a cut on his nose and didn't return to practice. Edi was checked out by training staff and returned later to practice.
Two topics for my notebook that ran in today's S-R. Gonzaga, as the college basketball world knows by now, is No. 2 in the AP poll, the highest ranking in program history. The Zags are the first non-power 6 conference team to be ranked in the AP top two since Memphis in 2007-08. Gonzaga has already set a school record with 27 regular-season wins. The Zags are closing in on the program's first 30-win seasons. GU won 29 games in 2002 and 2006.
We also explored Gonzaga's team chemistry, one of those intangibles that is easier to see than define. We took a shot at explaining it in this article.
Gonzaga remains a No. 1 seed, playing in Salt Lake City, in Lunardi's latest Bracketology (like that No. 7 UCLA vs. No. 10 Saint Mary's matchup).
