Gonzaga plays Portland at home in the McCarthey Athletic Center, Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017. Gonzaga picked up another win, but it wasn’t the cakewalk many expected. The fourth-ranked Zags pulled away from stubborn Portland in the second half for a 73-52 victory in front of 6,000 Saturday at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Gonzaga defeats South Dakota 102-65 at home in the McCarthey Athletic Center, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016. Zags 12-0 for first time in program history.

The 1943-44 Gonzaga basketball team posted a 21-2 record and was declared Northwest champions based on winning three of four games against the University of Washington. 1943-44 Gonzaga basketball team

Gonzaga’s first great basketball squad had that Elite Eight team beat by more than half a century. Fifty-five years to be exact. Nearly forgotten today, the 1943-44 Gonzaga Bulldogs were the original one-and-done wonders of college basketball – 13 young men brought together by fate, steeled by wartime determination and blessed with a now-or-never opportunity to make some hardwood magic in a tiny gym on Boone Avenue.

Gonzaga men defeat Iowa State 73-71 for Advocare Invite title

Nigel Williams scored a team-high 18 points as the hot-shooting Gonzaga Bulldogs raced to a 15-point halftime lead over the 21st-ranked Iowa State Cyclones at the AdvoCare Invitational tournament in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. But before they knew it the No. 11 Zags were up just one point late and in a fight for their championship lives. GU made a couple of key stops late and forced ISU's late attempt at a winner to be shot after the final buzzer, holing on dearly for a 73-71 win and the trophy.

Kraziness in the Kennel took place Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016. The event featured player and coaching staff introductions, a skills competition, three-point contest and dunk contest. The Red-Blue scrimmage concluded the action.
