In brief: Zags set to face Warriors
Men’s basketball: Gonzaga isn’t the only unbeaten men’s basketball team in the region. Lewis-Clark State College, a Lewiston-based NAIA school that has won its first nine games, visits Gonzaga at 6 tonight at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
No. 12 Gonzaga (6-0) has an average winning margin of 26.2 points. Senior forward Elias Harris is averaging 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds.
The Warriors, picked fourth in the Frontier Conference coaches’ preseason poll, are led by senior forward P.J. Bolte, who is averaging 19.3 points and 6.3 rebounds. LCSC second-year coach Brandon Rinta was a graduate assistant on Bulldogs assistant coach Ray Giacoletti’s staff at Eastern Washington.
The game counts on Gonzaga’s record, but it’s an exhibition game for LCSC.
Lakers send Sacre down
NBA: The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned rookie center Robert Sacre to the D-League’s Los Angeles D-Fenders.
The Lakers made the move Wednesday, shortly before the D-Fenders’ season opener.
Sacre appeared in eight games for the Lakers, recording two points and two rebounds in 19 minutes of play. He also has gained popularity among Lakers fans for his vociferous cheerleading on the Lakers’ bench.
Sacre was the 60th and final pick in the NBA draft last June. The Canadian 7-footer was a collegiate standout at Gonzaga, averaging 11.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks as a senior.
