For 15 years, the Northwest Film Forum has sponsored a Children’s Film Festival Seattle. Like most other public events in this time of pandemic, that event has been forced to adapt.

The result is, the sponsors say, that movie fans will have the chance to experience the 16th Annual version of the festival as it “goes virtual” in an effort to celebrate “Love & Light.”

Set to run Feb. 18-28, the festival will provide access to “film lovers of any age, residing in any country” by offering “sliding-scale, pay-what-you-can ticketing and a finely curated slate of films available on-demand.”

The result is that fest-goers will be able to choose among the 133 films being screened, including four features and 16 short-film programs representing 36 different countries. To make things easier for parents, live-action and animated films will be identified through “age-appropriate viewing brackets.”

In addition, various “various interactive hands-on workshops” will be conducted through Zoom, teaching aspects of storytelling, animation and experimental filmmaking. Some filmmakers will even be on hand, again virtually, to offer video greetings.

Interested movie fans have the option to purchase full-festival passes for short film programs or what the sponsors describe as “pay-what-you-can” options. The full festival schedule and links to buy tickets are scheduled to be posted by next Tuesday (Jan. 26).
