Ward decries ‘immigration lawyers’

Congressional candidate Vaughn held a press conference this morning on illegal immigration, and once again - though indirectly - criticized his opponent, Raul Labrador, for being an immigration attorney. "Experts in immigration law are fighting to keep the illegal aliens here, and since the federal government is not aggressive enough at our borders, the immigration lawyers and illegal aliens are too frequently winning the battle,” Ward declared. He had announced he'd be joined at his press conference by Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak, who's been outspoken on the issue and has decried the number of undocumented aliens who pass through the Canyon County Jail; Bujak, however, canceled as he was tied up with work in his office. Last week, Labrador held a press conference on immigration and accused Ward of unfairly targeting him for his occupation and his Puerto Rican heritage, while contending his knowledge of immigration law makes him the candidate who can deliver reform. Click below to read Ward's full press release from today; the two candidates will face off in a live debate on Idaho Public Television tomorrow night at 8.

Ward Stands Tough On Illegal Immigration
Ward: “The Federal government has failed to effectively protect our borders”

Meridian, ID – Today, 1st Congressional Candidate Vaughn Ward held a press conference praising the new Arizona immigration law and discussing the current illegal immigration problem.
“Our country is under siege by illegal aliens,” said Ward.  “Experts in immigration law are fighting to keep the illegal aliens here, and since the Federal government is not aggressive enough at our borders, the immigration lawyers and illegal aliens are too frequently winning the battle.”

“I have seen firsthand the negative impact that illegal immigration is having on Canyon County,” said Bujak. “Vaughn is the only candidate that we can count on to secure our borders and strongly oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants. Canyon County needs real immigration reform and Vaughn Ward is the only one that will deliver it for us.”

Ward continued, “Once people enter the country illegally, Idaho taxpayers are forced to spend a tremendous amount of money to provide for the health and welfare of people who should not be here in the first place.  In addition, taxpayers are forced to spend funds to provide illegal aliens with legal due process in the course of removing them from the United States. Only a comprehensive plan that both secures the borders and facilitates the enforcement of our laws will begin to solve our country’s immigration problem.”

“First and foremost, any legislation put forth must include a plan to secure and protect our borders. Stopping the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States is critical to our economy and our national security. We also must oppose amnesty for illegal aliens to make it clear that those who break our nation’s laws will not be rewarded.”

“The Federal government has failed to effectively protect our borders.  Federal cooperation with state and local law enforcement has not proven effective and states are now forced to consider taking matters into their own hands. I know what it takes to effectively protect our borders and defend this nation.  In Congress I will use my knowledge and experience to help secure our borders and keep illegal immigrants out of the country. There should be no reward for those who seek to enter this country illegally.  Amnesty is not the answer.  I will work to implement common sense reform that makes sense for Idaho.” concluded Ward.
