Giant parking crunch expected at Boise State on Thursday

Boise State University is expecting more than 70,000 people on its campus Thursday, as events collide, from regular classes, to two performances of "Les Miserables" at the Morrison Center, to a 4 p.m. women's volleyball game, to the 7 p.m. football matchup against BYU. The campus has 7,700 parking spaces.

As a result, BSU is declaring Thursday to be "Give Your Car a 'Brake' Day," encouraging alternate transportation and offering parking tips in advance of the big crunch. Click below for the university's full news release.

70,000 EXPECTED ON CAMPUS SEPT. 20; GIVE YOUR CAR A 'BRAKE'
 
Thursday, Sept. 20, will be a busy day at Boise State. The university is expecting a total of 70,000+ people from Bronco Nation to be on campus as it hosts the following events:
Regular university classes
“Les Miserables” at the Morrison Center: 2 and 7:30 p.m. performances (see http://news.boisestate.edu/update/2012/09/18/where-to-park-for-sept-20-les-miz-shows/ for 2 p.m. matinee parking information)
Boise State Women’s Volleyball in Bronco Gym: 4 p.m.
Boise State Football vs. BYU at Bronco Stadium: 7 p.m.

 
Boise State has 7,700 parking spaces. Due to the large volume of people expected on campus, the university is asking students and fans to utilize alternative forms of transportation to access campus. The day is being billed as Give Your Car a “Brake” Day.
 
If you ride your bike to campus for the football or volleyball game, bring it to the bike corral, conveniently located off of the Greenbelt in the grassy area next to Christ Chapel by the Friendship Bridge. Park your bike and receive a ticket that will allow you to reclaim it after the game.

STREET RESTRICTIONS — Grant and Euclid Closed
Grant Street and Euclid Avenue, between Belmont Street and University Drive, will be closed starting at 12:01 a.m. Thursday through the end of the game, for security. This will include the entire street and only residents will be allowed to enter to park. Streets will be restricted for all Boise State home games. University Drive between Lincoln and Broadway avenues is open temporarily through Sept. 21.
 
BRONCO FOOTBALL VS. BYU — 7 p.m. at Bronco Stadium
ACCESSIBLE PARKING – Lots Open to the Public at 3 p.m.
Restrictions
Accessible parking spaces are $10 each or free with a Boise State accessible permit. The vehicle must display an ADA license plate or placard, and the person assigned the registered placard/license plate must be in the vehicle to purchase accessible parking. There are no in-and-out privileges; vacated spaces will be resold.
 
Stadium Lots: $10
Accessible parking stalls in the Stadium lots are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 or are free to Boise State accessible permit holders. No in-and-out privileges. Accessible spaces are designated by space number. Vehicles must park in the correct numbered accessible space as designated on the permit.
 
ET Reserved Lot at Euclid Avenue and University Drive: $10
Accessible parking is $10, or free with a valid Boise State accessible permit. A Boise State shuttle will provide transportation to and from the game from 5 p.m. until one hour after the game. Requires accessible plate or placard.  
 
Lincoln Avenue Parking Garage: $10
Accessible parking is $10, or free with a valid Boise State accessible parking permit. The bottom floor has been reserved for accessible parking. A Boise State shuttle will provide transportation to and from the game from 3 p.m. until one hour after the game.
 
ON-CAMPUS PUBLIC PARKING — Lots Open at 3 p.m.
Administration Visitor Lot: $10
Spaces are $10 per vehicle. Accessible Boise State shuttle service provided to and from the game from 5 p.m. until one hour after the game. Access for fan football parking will be allowed starting at 5 p.m. Those with season Administration Visitor lot parking passes will be allowed to enter at 3 p.m.
 
Lincoln Avenue Parking Garage: $10
Spaces are $10 per vehicle. Accessible Boise State shuttle service provided to and from the game from 5 p.m. until one hour after the game. Entrance is located on Belmont Street between Lincoln Avenue and Michigan Street. Football game day parking will be sold starting at 3 p.m. based on availability. 
 
Brady Street Parking Garage: Permit Only
The Brady Street Parking Garage will be restricted to the following Boise State permit holders: BG, BGR, T Reserved and Broadway in Boise. No hourly parking will be available. The Brady Street Parking Garage and the T reserved lots will be used solely for student, staff and faculty parking and for the Morrison Center showing of “Les Miserables.”
 
Yanke Family Research Park Lot, 220 E. Parkcenter: $6 (RV Parking)
Spaces are $6. This location is the only RV parking available on campus for non-Bronco Athletic Association Members. No shuttle service will be provided to and from this lot; those parking in this lot are encouraged to walk to the game on the Greenbelt. 
 
Bicycle Parking
Secure, valet bicycle parking is provided from 10 a.m. until one hour after the game near Christ Chapel on Cesar Chavez Lane. Retain your parking ticket to retrieve your bike.  
 
Bronco Athletic Association Reserved Parking Early arrivals will be turned away. Lots will open promptly at 3 p.m.
Those with pre-purchased parking permits through the Bronco Athletic Association will be allowed to enter their designated parking lots starting at 3 p.m. and are required to exit one hour after the game. BAA lots include Stadium, Manitou, Denver, Denver and Beacon and Norco Lots and the Lincoln Avenue Parking Garage. 
 
Relocated Vehicles on Campus
Vehicles that have been relocated for any reason can be found at the Lincoln Hall dirt lot, located off of Lincoln Avenue between University Drive and Belmont Street at 1015 S. Lincoln Avenue.
 
OFF-CAMPUS PUBLIC PARKING
Downtown Public Parking Garages: $5
Attendees are encourages to park in downtown public parking garages and ride the Boise Shuttle to the game. The cost is $5. For more information, call Downtown Boise Association at 472-5251 or visit http://www.downtownboise.org/index.cfm/getting_around/bronco_shuttle.
 
URS Parking Garage, 720 Park Blvd.: $5
The URS Parking Garage opens at 5 p.m. Free shuttle service provided to and from the game from 5 p.m. until one hour after the game.  
 
Residential Street Parking
Boise State discourages parking on residential side streets. For those who choose to park on the city streets, remember that vehicles are not allowed to be parked along portions of University Drive from 2-5 a.m. Vehicles cannot be parked longer than 24 hours, no parking is allowed 30 feet from stop signs or 20 feet from an intersection, no parking is allowed in alleyways, driveways or vacant yards, and all vehicles must be within 18 inches of the curb. BRONCO WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL IN BRONCO GYM, 4 p.m.
Liberal Arts and Library Lots
Those attending the Boise State volleyball game in Bronco Gym will have access to the Liberal Arts and Library lots starting at 5:30 p.m., based on availability.
