Senate backs amendment to HB 95

Sen. Jim Rice, R-Caldwell, presented the amendment to his bill, HB 95, to the Senate just now. That’s the bill to exempt materials used in public roads from the sales tax. The amendment changes the effective date of the new exemption to “July 1, 2016, instead of this July,” Rice said, “So it won’t affect this budget year that we’ve been working on the budgets.” With the amendment, the tax break would apply to contracts entered into on or after July 1, 2016. The amendment was approved.
