Bonner County calls for halt to refugee resettlement for security review
Bonner County commissioners are calling for the resettlement of refugees from Iraq and Syria to stop until security procedures are reviewed. Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution Monday echoing Gov. Butch Otter's call for the immediate halt of resettling new refugees until vetting rules can be reviewed, according to the Bonner County Daily Bee.
A crowd at the commissioners’ meeting in Sandpoint was mostly supportive of the resolution, raising concerns about everything from terrorists slipping into the country to Sharia law, but some objected that it will fuel misconceptions that North Idaho is a place of racial and religious intolerance.
