Parks Dept. corporate sponsorships bill introduced

The Senate Resources Committee has voted unanimously to introduce legislation sought by state Parks Director David Langhorst to allow state parks to solicit corporate sponsorships as an additional revenue source, but not without questions. Sen. Michelle Stennett, D-Ketchum, questioned whether it would lead to naming parks after donors. “We have a separate set of policies on naming, and this does not include naming of parks, that’s not the intention,” Langhorst responded. “Although it does include potential for naming things, like a group shelter or a bench. We do some of that already right now.”

The bill would let the state parks board “encourage sponsorships by providing appropriate recognition.” Today’s committee vote to introduce the bill clears the way for a hearing.
