Transportation funding high on Legislature’s agenda
Legislative leaders from both parties say improvements to how Idaho funds maintenance of its transportation system are likely to get attention this year. “The citizens of Idaho have invested billions of dollars in to this transportation system,” said House Speaker Scott Bedke. “I think we will take steps this year. There is this growing acknowledgment that we’ve got to do something, and from all quarters.”
Senate Minority Leader Michelle Stennett, D-Ketchum, said the most recent estimates still show a quarter-million more each year should be spent, just to keep roads in the same condition they’re in now. “It’s a matter not only of public safety but also of commerce and economics,” she said. “It is a job creator.”
