Otter signs HB 1 into law

Gov. Butch Otter announced this afternoon that he has now signed HB 1, the child support enforcement bill that passed in yesterday's special legislative session, into law. On Twitter, Otter reported, "Today at 3:24 pm I signed HB 1 into law, maintaining Idaho's child support system." At a press conference this morning, Otter said he hadn't yet received the bill, but couldn't wait to sign it when he did. The measure takes effect immediately. You can see the bill here, its Statement of Purpose and fiscal note, and how each member of the Idaho Legislature voted on it; it passed the House 49-21 and the Senate 33-2.

You can read my full story here at spokesman.com, including how state leaders say claims that the bill is unconstitutional are "bogus."
