State Ed Board taps LCSC VP as new chief financial officer

Chet Herbst, an administrator at Lewis-Clark State College since 2001, has been named the new chief financial officer for the state Board of Education. He succeeds Matt Freeman, who was promoted to be the board’s executive director.

“Chet brings a strong background in higher education finance and policy,” Freeman said in a statement. “His experience in working with the state Board of Education and the Idaho Legislature will be very valuable as we work to provide high quality education opportunities, from kindergarten to career, in order to increase education attainment in Idaho and meet the talent needs of business and industry.”

Herbst is LCSC’s vice president for finance and administration. Prior to joining the Lewiston college, he served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of colonel.
