Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: IDAHO CITY, Idaho (AP) - Firefighters are setting up sprinkler systems to protect buildings in the central Idaho town of Lowman as a wildfire on Wednesday expanded to 75 square miles. Officials say slightly cooler weather and winds from the northwest should help firefighters trying to prevent flames from reaching the small town. Fire spokeswoman Jennifer Myslivy says there are no evacuation notices. Nearly 1,500 firefighters are battling the blaze burning timber in rugged terrain and that grew by more than 9 square miles. Fire crews have repeatedly had to abandon fire lines as the fire moved north but Myslivy says crews are trying to build another one using a prescribed burn near the town of Lowman. State Highway 21 is closed from 6 miles north of Idaho City to south of Lowman.

As of 10 a.m. today, the fire was at 48,350 acres and was 36 percent contained. A community meeting has been set for 7 p.m. today at the Lowman Emergency Services Building 7 miles east of town. In addition to the main Incident Command Post in Idaho City, fire camps have been set up in Garden Valley and Lowman.
