State, Syringa, Qwest and ENA face off in court over IEN $$
Lawyers for the state and three broadband vendors faced off at the Idaho Supreme Court today, reports Kevin Richert of Idaho Education News, as the battle continues over tens of millions of dollars in the wake of the failure of the Idaho Education Network. The statewide high school broadband network went dark last year after a court declared the $60 million contract the state issued for it illegal; schools now contract for their own broadband services at a much-reduced cost, but the legal fight continues.
Attorney Steven Schossberger of Boise law firm Hawley Troxell, representing the state, told the justices the state might be forced to write off - or give back - $25 million in federally administered payments, if the Supreme Court agrees with a lower court that the contract is void. The high court took the case under advisement; you can read Richert’s full report here.
