Campaign finance initiative campaign files its Sunshine report

The “Keep Idaho Elections Accountable” campaign has filed its campaign finance report, showing that it raised $97,590 for its campaign for a ballot initiative to reduce the role of money in Idaho politics, from lobbying to campaign donations. The group spent $86,582 on its signature-gathering drive through May 1, and had $11,008 on hand at the close of the reporting period with $6,211 in debt. It has turned in nearly 80,000 signatures; just under 48,000 valid ones are required to make the ballot. Now, signatures are in the process of being verified to see if enough are valid.

The biggest contributions to the effort came from End Citizens United-Federal, a political action committee in Washington, D.C., which donated $25,000; Sean Eldredge of Shokan, N.Y., $25,000; and James Greer II of San Francisco, $25,000. The rest came from nearly 30 mostly much smaller donations from individuals, most of them from out of state, but five of them from Idaho. Among those, the biggest donation was from the campaign chair, former state Rep. Holli Woodings of Boise, at $1,000.
