Dem challenger Piotrowski outraises Labrador in most recent period, but Labrador still has more cash

The latest campaign finance reports are in for 1st District GOP Rep. Raul Labrador and his Democratic challenger, James Piotrowski, who will debate tonight on live TV on Channel 7-2 in Boise, starting at 8 p.m. MT. Surprisingly, the third-term congressman was actually out-raised during the most recent reporting period, which stretched from July 1 to Sept. 30, by Piotrowski, who raised $112,672, to Labrador’s $101,677. However, Labrador had more carried over from earlier periods, and ended the reporting period with $247,093 on hand, to Piotrowski’s $59,974.

Labrador’s biggest contributions during the reporting period were $5,000 each from Intel Corp. and Koch Industries PAC; that brought his Koch Industries donations for the election cycle to date to $10,000. His largest expenditure during the period was $34,000 to Public Opinion Strategies LLC of Alexandria, Va., for political strategy consulting. He also continued to pay his wife, Becca, a $2,022 per month salary from the campaign for bookkeeping.

Piotrowski’s biggest contributions during the period were $5,000 each from the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Political Action Together Political Committee and the Laborers International Union of North America PAC. He also received $3,500 from the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers PAC, for a total of $10,000 from that PAC for the election cycle to date. Piotrowski received a large number of small, individual contributions from attorneys, both inside and outside Idaho. His largest expenditures during the period were $10,500 to Effect Your Cause for fundraising consulting; $7,249 to Lake Research Partners for polling; and $4,508 to Print for Progress in Columbus, Ohio, for printing.
