Eye On Boise

Nope, Goedde’s not planning a Senate comeback…

I thought I was onto a little scoop when I spotted the filing in the Secretary of State’s office recently showing former state Sen. John Goedde, R-Coeur d’Alene, apparently running for the Senate in District 2 – which is Sen. Steve Vick’s district. But that wasn’t what was actually happening. Goedde, who served seven terms in the Senate and chaired the Senate Education Committee before losing to current Sen. Mary Souza in the 2014 GOP primary, isn’t making a comeback.

He’s still filing reports on leftover campaign funds, as required, and when his prior campaign treasurer faced some health issues, needed to appoint a new treasurer. It went in with his current address, which is now in District 2 rather than his former District 4. “And the form requires you to put some kind of a position that you’re running for, so that’s what I did,” Goedde said. “I told Sen. Vick that’s what I was doing – I had no intention of running against him.”

Goedde said he’s given no thought to a comeback bid. “Given the state of that body, I don’t think I would fit very well,” he said.
