Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Health officials say a rabid bat was found in Ada County. Officials with Central District Health Department said Tuesday the dead rabid bat was brought into a home by a family cat in the Eagle area. Officials say the rabid bat made contact with the cat, but not the family. Officials say the bat tested positive for rabies late Friday. Spokeswoman Christine Myron says the cat was up-to-date on its rabies vaccines and is expected to be fine. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the rabies virus can attack the nervous system and cause brain damage. Fatalities are common after the host begins to show symptoms. However, deaths can be prevented with a vaccine administered immediately after exposure.
