Gov’s office announces Otter is undergoing second back surgery in a week today

Idaho Gov. Butch Otter underwent back surgery last Friday, and is undergoing a second surgical procedure today, his office announced this afternoon. The July 7 surgery was to address a bulging disk in his back, and he went home the next day to recover. But further testing led to scheduling the second procedure.

“The governor will continue doing some state business via telephone and working closely with his office,” Otter’s communications director, Mark Warbis, said in a statement. “However, no meetings or events are scheduled in the coming week. He will be back to work at the Capitol as soon as possible.”
