House Rev & Tax votes unanimously in favor of grocery tax repeal
The House Revenue & Taxation Committee has voted unanimously, 16-0, in favor of concurring in the Senate amendments to HB 67a, to repeal the state's 6 percent sales tax on groceries.
Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Idaho Falls, made the motion to concur in the Senate amendments. Rep. Stephen Hartgen, R-Twin Falls, spoke in favor of the motion. “The important part to me here is that it would provide some real tax relief, and I’ve been in favor of that for a long time. We’re at the end of the session. This may or may not be our only opportunity to provide some significant tax relief,” he said.
