15 Idaho attorneys, judges vying for high court opening

Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Fifteen candidates are vying for an open seat on the Idaho Supreme Court. Supreme Court Justice Daniel Eismann announced earlier this year he will retire in August — 16 months before the end of his current six-year term. This Idaho Judicial Council has since solicited names, where they will then recommend up to four names to the governor for appointment instead of waiting until the 2018 election. Idaho's Supreme Court positions are nonpartisan. Candidates include former state Sen. Curt McKenzie, a Republican from Nampa, and Idaho Court of Appeals Judge Sergio Gutierrez — who both unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the state's highest court last year. Seven of the candidates are sitting judges. The Idaho Judicial Council is now accepting public comments on the candidates.
