Idaho unemployment dropped to 2.8% in Sept., lowest since 1976
Idaho’s unemployment rate continued its steady fall in September, dropping to 2.8 percent, the lowest rate since 1976. That marks the seventh consecutive monthly decrease in the state’s unemployment rate; it was down a tenth of a percentage point from than August.
“Idaho’s labor force statistics continue to reflect the state’s robust economic growth,” the Idaho Department of Labor said in a news release. “Employment was up 13,187 over September of 2016, and the state’s labor force showed a 5,463 increase. Unemployment was down 25 percent with 7,724 fewer unemployed workers.”
The strongest year-over-year employment growth in the state was recorded in the Boise MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area), followed by Pocatello. Three counties, Clearwater (5.6 percent), Shoshone (5.5 percent), and Lewis (5.3 percent) had unemployment rates above 5 percent in September.
Nationally, unemployment dropped to 4.2 percent in September, down from 4.4 percent in August.
