State treasurer hopeful could lose her county credit card over misuse allegations

The Ada County clerk has sent a letter to the county commissioners recommending that county Treasurer Vicky McIntyre’s county credit card be revoked after several instances of misuse of the card, the latest in a series of controversies over McIntyre’s work as the county treasurer. The reason that might be of interest outside Ada County? She’s running for state treasurer. In fact, McIntyre is debating the other two GOP candidates for the post, Tom Kealey and Julie Ellsworth, Thursday evening on live statewide TV as part of the “Idaho Debates.”

You can read the letter from County Clerk Chris Rich online here. Here’s a 2015 Idaho Statesman article about issues the county commissioners raised about McIntyre’s performance when they refused to grant her a raise that all other top county officials got that year.

I am awaiting word from the county commissioners on whether they took any action in response to Rich’s recommendation, which followed an audit. UPDATE: The commissioners sent McIntyre a letter today requesting "the immediate termination and surrender of your county credit card," adding, "Please send us confirmation from the bank as soon as the card has been closed."
