Rival gangs clash at Idaho’s maximum-security prison; five hospitalized

A “disturbance” at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution yesterday involving two rival gangs involved 17 inmates, the Idaho Department of Correction announced today, and five were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Ada County Sheriff’s Department is investigating, at the request of IDOC.

The department reports that none of the injuries are life-threatening, and no staff members were hurt. “The disturbance began at 4:06 p.m. Thursday,” IDOC said in a news release. The Max, a 549-bed men’s facility south of Boise, is the state’s highest-security prison.
