Both houses pushing hard toward adjournment; Senate passes DWP bill, House passes new SPI budget

The Senate has passed HB 599, Rep. Greg Chaney’s bill to lighten penalties for driving without privileges, on a 32-2 vote. Meanwhile, the House has passed HB 717, the new version of the budget bill for the state superintendent of schools, on a 61-7 vote; the new version includes full funding for the new Idaho Reading Indicator early reading assessment test for children in kindergarten through third grade. Both houses are pushing hard to wrap up much of their remaining business today.

Now, the Senate has recessed until 3 p.m.; the House until 2:30.
