Obama talks climate change, says he won’t attend climate talks in Poland

President-elect Barack Obama submitted a nearly four-minute video message to the Governors’ Global Climate Summit yesterday, in which he vowed to make greenhouse gas emission reduction a priority. The summit, hosted by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, was graced by Obama via the YouTube. In his message Obama said, “My presidency will mark a new chapter in America’s leadership on climate change that will strengthen our security and create millions of new jobs in the process.” In his message he also made clear that despite numerous invites from environmental campaigns he would be missing new climate treaty talks in Poland next month. “While I won’t be president at the time of your meeting and while the United States has only one president at a time, I’ve asked members of Congress who are attending the conference as observers to report back to me on what they learn there.” Despite his absence from the critical talks in Poland, DTE hopes both he and his transition team continue making climate change and energy vital elements of his policy change.
