Down To Earth

Take the “Farmers Are Planning” survey

Even though some markets are staying indoors right now like South Perry, all farmers need help planning for the growing season and it's important that they hear from you - so take this quick suvey before January 31st.

Sample question:

Artichokes
They don't grow well in our climate, but if you saw them at the market would you snatch them up? Yes or no?

Again, this is a great planning tool that will help local, independent food sources; it's fun and it won't take very long. After the jump, check the introduction.

The farmers are thumbing through seed catalogs. Looking through the pages of tomatoes alone they study the notes about different varieties. Perhaps they are considering growing Beefsteak, Green Velvet, Egg Yolk, Brandywine, Gypsy, or even Malakhitovaya Shkatulka tomatoes. They consider what will grow best in our climate and their soil. They consider where they will plant different things in the garden, and they wonder what will fly off the table at farmers markets. That's where you come it... if you let the farmers know what you want to see at the market, they won't have to wonder quite as much.
