Down To Earth

Another Green Monday: Sign up for team Down To Earth at the Spokane River Clean-Up on Saturday!

One of the most beloved community events, the 9th Annual Spokane Spokane River Clean-Up is this Saturday, October 1st. We need team leaders and registrants. Last year over 800 people volunteered and the final count was nearly 6 tons of trash collected (11,982 pounds) of which 2 tons (4,092 pounds) was recycled.

You can sign up HERE and if you want to join me, sign up for team Down To Earth.

From Friends Of The FallsEach year, the trash tallies grow as more and more folks show up and cover more and more areas along the Spokane River shoreline. A growing list of groups and organizations, like high schools, churches, whitewater groups, service clubs and others sign up too, each taking advantage of the Clean-Up as a way to give back to the community and beautify the river.

Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced picker-upper, you’re invited to join the fun. Live east of Downtown? This year’s event is planned to cover the University District, Sullivan Park, Barker Road, and Harvard Road in Spokane Valley. And that’s in addition to our base, the Downtown River Gorge area around Peaceful Valley, High Bridge and People’s Park.

Online registration opens September 1. Much more to come, but for now, mark your calendar and consider recruiting friends, family, or your favorite group to take part. It’s great fun, and hugely gratifying.

A quick shout-out and thanks to the community-minded sponsors that’ve already signed up to support the Clean-Up, including:

Again, the 2011 Spokane River Clean-Up is set for Saturday, October 1.

See you there!
