Study: More than 20 percent of undergraduate women say they were victims of sexual assault

A massive sexual assault study on college campuses was released Monday. The study surveyed more than 150,000 students from 27 universities.

The results are sobering.

According to the study, conducted by the Association of American Universities, 23 percent of undergraduate women and 5 percent of undergraduate men reported being sexually assaulted while attending university. That includes a variety of non-consensual sexual contact ranging from penetration to sexual touching – due to force or incapacitation.

Eleven percent of undergraduate women reported being victims of non-consensual penetration or attempted penetration.

No local universities were involved in the study. The closest was the University of Oregon where twenty-four percent of undergraduate women reported being victims of non-consensual sexual contact. Six percent of undergraduate men reported non-consensual sexual contact.

The survey was administered at the end of the 2015 spring semester. Read the full report here
