New holiday traditions: Celebrating Christmas at the beach

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas from sunny SoCal. We celebrated in Santa Monica last year.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas from sunny SoCal. We celebrated in Santa Monica last year.

Thanksgiving dinner this year included screaming down a zipline in Vegas, followed by pizza instead of turkey. Our Christmas decorations have been reduced to a single string of lights and an 8-inch tinsel tree. And we're fine with that.

When you're living on the road in a 23-foot RV, there's a serious need to downsize and redefine traditions. OK, we still managed to squeeze in a couple of viewings of "It's a Wonderful Life". The first showing with friends in the Bay Area, and the second as a hilarious staged radio production at Pasadena Playhouse. Because some traditions you just don't wanna change.

The biggest shift to holiday rituals comes in the kitchen. No cookie decorating parties this year. And you can't exactly roast a prime rib in a microwave oven, so we're mixing things up and going the opposite direction of fancy town. Here's to the first annual Christmas Cookout on the beach! After some discussion, we've come up with a festive menu: Grilled Italian sausages with red and green peppers. S'mores for dessert. We'll post photos of the feast on Instagram, hashtagging 'em RVXmas.

Thanks for following along on our grand tour. From sunny SoCal, we're wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
