Strange Packages: Are We Too Panicky?

First, a disclaimer. As you recall, CPD Blues once called the Spokane Bomb Squad to check out an unusual Christmas card that Marmitetoasty sent me -- what? 3 years ago -- from Jolly Old England. I was surprised re: all the commotion. But also relieved when the envelope turned out to be nothing more than an image of a Christmas tree w/small buttons for lights (which looked like a possible wire device when observed from the other side of the envelope). Today, a federal judge from Spokane got a FedEx package on his doorstep and the bomb squad was eventually called. Increasingly, bomb squads are called out to check suspicious packages.

Question: Are we getting too panicky when it comes to receiving and spotting unusual packages around us?
