Montana D’s Fire Staffer Who Posed As R

The Montana Democratic Party has announced the firing of a regional party field staffer after the person apparently posed as a Republican and showed up at a July 2 candidates' discussion group at GOP headquarters in Great Falls. In a news release Saturday state Democratic Executive Director David Benson did not identify the person who was fired or state the reason other than a failure to maintain high standards. But the Great Falls Tribune is reporting the man's name as Sean Bibus and that Republicans identified him using the Internet after becoming suspicious when he was spotted at a building where the Democratic Party leases space. Benson says the former employee acted independently/Associated Press. More here. H/T: Orbusmax

Question: What prompts political operatives from doing stuff like this?
