Breaking Down Recall Myths #2

A Recall CdA flyer handed out by Mary Souza last week at the Republican Women's Club included four reasons to dump Coeur d'Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem & council members Deanna Goodlander, Woody McEvers and Mike Kennedy. This is reason No. 4. It may be the most telling. "They consistently voted to support questionable projects." You know what they're discussing here, right? The Kroc Center. The Education Corridor. The Coeur d'Alene Library. Riverstone. The hundreds of yards of Spokane River front at Mill River. Etc. You'll be hard pressed to get a Recaller or their allies on the City Council to admit they oppose these projects that have transformed Coeur d'Alene into a city almost as viewtiful as its lake. Dan Gookin will tell you that he's not against the Education Corridor. Just the purchase process. A Recaller will tell you s/he's not against the Coeur d'Alene Library, just the cost of the purchase from Dee Jameson. Larry Spencer wasn't against the Kroc Center. Just the way the dirt was acquired to fill the old gravel pit that it replaced. None of them are ever against any of these, ahem, "questionable projects." Clever words to hide true intentions. I suppose the Recallers will all tell you that they're for an upgrade of McEuen Field, only ...
