DanOTC To Seek Political Office

Dan English (aka Dan of the Community) has told Huckleberries that he will run for a political office in the new Legislative District 2 (although he hasn't announced which one). "I will be getting my paperwork in order and filed with the Secretary of State very soon. I plan to make a public announcement giving details of which position I will be running for after that time." Dan continues: "One of my primary motivations in running is to give people of District 2, formerly District 3, a choice on the November ballot no matter who else might be on the ballot.  In doing some research into past elections in this district, I found that the voters have not had an actual choice on the ballot for a full decade when JoAnn Harvey ran against Kent Bailey for Senate in 2002.  I feel our elected representatives should represent all of the voters not just one party or viewpoint exclusively.  I think that is healthy for our Republic and the process of Democracy.  Win or lose, I will give the voters in District 2 at least one race with a clear choice come November."

Question: Can a Democrat win in bright-red Legislative District 2?
