Zags, UI Women Get Tourney Slots

College Station, Texas, is not exactly Seattle. But it is where the Gonzaga (29-4) women will open the 2014 NCAA women’s basketball tournament as the No. 6 seed against No. 11-seed James Madison (28-5) on Sunday. The winner of that game will play Tuesday against the winner of No. 3-seed Texas A&M against No. 14-seed North Dakota. Gonzaga, the West Coast Conference champion, was hoping for a little closer to home. The Seattle sub-regional site will play host to No. 1-seed South Carolina. This is the first No. 1 seed for the Gamecocks and they will take on No. 16 Cal State Northridge. The other Seattle game will pit No. 8 Middle Tennessee against No. 9 Oregon State. WAC champion Idaho (25-8), also hoping for Seattle, was sent to Iowa City, Iowa as the No. 14 seed. The Vandals will take on No. 3-seed Louisville (30-4) on Sunday. That winner will play Tuesday against the winner of the Iowa-Marist game. Defending champion Connecticut is the top seed overall/SR. More here. Question: Are these good seeds and opening round games for Gonzaga, UI Vandal women?
