ignite cda eyes building removal near Skate Park 

It appears as though ignite cda is preparing to order demolition of more buildings that it owns north of the Coeur d'Alene Skate Park, off Garden Avenue, between Park Drive and Northwest Boulevard. ignite cda has removed 5 or 6 houses along Park Drive so far. Others are still being used as rentals.

CdA shoplifter loses burglary appeal 

The Idaho Supreme Court has upheld the state’s burglary law, over a challenge from a CdA man that it’s unconstitutional because it was used to charge him with felony burglary instead of misdemeanor shoplifting for taking items from a Wal-Mart store. Idaho’s burglary law simply requires that a person enter a place with an intent to commit a crime.

Virginia reins in concealed carry 

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring (D) on Tuesday announced the commonwealth will no longer recognize concealed carry permits issued in dozens of other states. After a review, the state determined that dangerous people could legally obtain guns in 25 states with weaker gun laws and bring them into Virginia.

Free lunch could cost worker job 25 

Dalene Bowden admits that she broke the rules, but she’s not apologizing and says she would do exactly the same thing again. Bowden, a lunch worker at Irving Middle School, said she was placed on unpaid leave Dec. 15 after giving a free lunch to a 12-year-old student who didn’t have money to pay for her hot meal.

How I spent Monday evening 

First, a system problem KO'd Huckleberries Online shortly after 4:30 Monday evening. Then, I spent most of the evening enjoying home life by candlelight. I even wrote in my daily log by candlelight. I was confident when I hit sack in the dark around 11 o'clock that Avista crews would make everything right by morning. They did.

Spokane Muslims feel tension 19 

After the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., this month was attributed to a Muslim couple, Karen Strongren’s son was afraid to go to prayer services at the Spokane Islamic Center. “He was saying, ‘I really don’t want to go to the mosque. I don’t want to go because I am afraid somebody is going to come in and start shooting,’ ” Strongren said.

Bergdahl doesn't enter plea 

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl deferred entering a plea this morning against charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, after he allegedly deserted his unit in 2009 and was then held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan for five years. Bergdahl was arraigned at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and made his first appearance before a judge.

Report: Idaho misses health goals 

In a new report, Idaho scored three out of 10 on key indicators related to infectious disease prevention, detection and response. The state tied with six others for the lowest score. The report, "Outbreaks: Protecting Americans from Infectious Diseases," was produced by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Trust for America's Health.

Weather: White Xmas ahead

The National Weather Service in Spokane issued another winter storm warning Monday — up to 8 inches of snow are expected by this morning and another 2 to 4 inches tonight. When asked for details on the weather between now and Christmas, meteorologist Randy Mann said “Snow. In one word, snow. We have more storms coming.”

Sandpoint quakes point to old fault

A swarm of earthquakes near Sandpoint last April indicates that an ancient fault is active again, a University of Idaho researcher says. The quakes, widely felt in Bonner County, struck April 23 and 24 with magnitudes in the 4.1 to 4.2 range. They were larger than other recent quakes, which allowed scientists to study them in greater detail.
