An Alaska Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Spokane after smoke filled the plane’s cabin Tuesday morning. A passenger on Alaska Flight 2372 from Seattle tweeted a video of passengers standing on the tarmac in Spokane around 8:20 a.m. and said his flight had just made an emergency landing.

Bomb threats shut all LA schools
All Los Angeles Unified School District schools have been ordered closed Tuesday due to an unspecified “credible threat” of violence to students at numerous schools in the sprawling district, and a schools official confirmed that it was a bomb threat to the school district. Los Angeles Unified is the nation’s second-largest school district.

Nate’s New York Pizza in Post Falls is alive and well — a brutally slow Sunday notwithstanding. For the record, Nate’s is open Wednesdays through Sundays despite a published rumor in Sunday’s Press suggesting otherwise. Owner Glenn Gatherer said Nate's was down $1,000 on Sunday, a day his restaurant normally brings in $1,500.

The shooting death of a 22-year-old Hayden man remains under investigation by Coeur d’Alene police detectives. Police found Richard Baumgartner in a vehicle in a downtown parking lot around 1 a.m. Sunday with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson decided against ending a secret U.S. policy that prohibits immigration officials from reviewing social media posts of foreigners applying for U.S. visas, according to a report by ABC News.
