Poll: It's North Idaho, period 

An overwhelming majority of Hucks Nation said it prefers to refer to this region as "North Idaho," not "northern Idaho." 220 of 254 respondents (86.61%) prefer "North Idaho" when describing the five northern counties. Airplane makes emergency landing 18 

An Alaska Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Spokane after smoke filled the plane’s cabin Tuesday morning. A passenger on Alaska Flight 2372 from Seattle tweeted a video of passengers standing on the tarmac in Spokane around 8:20 a.m. and said his flight had just made an emergency landing.

While a group of legislators are looking for ways to income and personal property taxes, a report says that Idahoans are satisfied with the fairness of the state's tax system. Bomb threats shut all LA schools

All Los Angeles Unified School District schools have been ordered closed Tuesday due to an unspecified “credible threat” of violence to students at numerous schools in the sprawling district, and a schools official confirmed that it was a bomb threat to the school district. Los Angeles Unified is the nation’s second-largest school district.

Nate's Pizza open despite report 10 

Nate’s New York Pizza in Post Falls is alive and well — a brutally slow Sunday notwithstanding. For the record, Nate’s is open Wednesdays through Sundays despite a published rumor in Sunday’s Press suggesting otherwise. Owner Glenn Gatherer said Nate's was down $1,000 on Sunday, a day his restaurant normally brings in $1,500.

Questions surround shooting death 

The shooting death of a 22-year-old Hayden man remains under investigation by Coeur d’Alene police detectives. Police found Richard Baumgartner in a vehicle in a downtown parking lot around 1 a.m. Sunday with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

House R's defend Christmas 11 

Some House Republicans has signed onto legislation declaring support for Christmas. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) has introduced a resolution expressing the sense that “the symbols and traditions of Christmas should be protected for use by those who celebrate Christmas” amid warnings from the right that religion is being pushed out of the holiday."

Immigrant social postings protected 

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson decided against ending a secret U.S. policy that prohibits immigration officials from reviewing social media posts of foreigners applying for U.S. visas, according to a report by ABC News. Johnson decided to keep the prohibition in place in early 2014 because he feared a civil liberties backlash.

Male torches U.S. flag on 4th St 

The portion of a police report shown above tells of the vandalism to a U.S. flag that was flying outside the Cheating Death Discount Vapor store, 510 N4th St/Coeur d'Alene.
