Dike Road Tree Cut Concerns KEA

Email from Adrienne Cronebaugh of the Kootenai Environmental Alliance to City Engineer Gordon Dobler re: tree thinning on Dike Road:

You mention that the consultant will be doing the inspection, but who is overseeing the excavation of the stumps and roots on the Dike Road? I called the Arborist that was contracted by the City to do the tree health assessment and removal recommendations, Tim Kasting, and he said has not been involved since the tour we did. Why not? The removal of these trees/roots need to be overseen by a qualified Arborist so that live tree roots are not damaged in the process. Both the disturbance of soil and the indiscriminate excavation of live tree roots could leave our healthy trees more prone to failure. Also, exactly how many trees are being/have already been removed? Complete exchange of emails here.

DFO: We need a count on how many trees will remain on Dike Road after all the ones with green dots are cut. The city says 700 will be left. Anyone willing and able to make the count?
