Gookin’s Wrong About Committees

Seems Coeur d'Alene Councilman was shooting from the hip Tuesday night when he claimed: "We've got some people who serve on five or six committees. Our committees are weak because they don't have a good cross-representation of the city" Earlier today, Huckleberries asked city spokesman Keith Erickson to provide the number of residents who serve on city committees and the number who serve on more than one committee. Here's Keith's answer: "130 people serve on said committees. 6 people serve on 2 committees. 3 people serve on three committees. No citizen serves on more than three committees." Here's the people who serve on more than one committee or commission:

  • Mike Dodge – arts, design review
  • Tom Messina – design review, natural open-space, planning & zoning
  • Brad Jordan – LCDC, parking and planning & zoning
  • Dave Patzer – LCDC and Parks & Recreation
  • John Bruning – arts, natural open space, and pedestrian/bike
  • Heather Bowlby – planning & zoning, and design review
  • Ben Wolfinger – Civil service, personnel appeals
  • Dixie Reid, Civil service, and personnel appeals
  • Sharmon Schmitt – Civil service commission, and personnel appeals

Question: Where do you suppose Gookin came up with the bogus claim that some residents serve on 5 or 6 committees?
