(CNN)—Christopher Lee, the actor, was often the villain. He played Dracula, the bad guy in the James Bond thriller "The Man with the Golden Gun," the deliciously evil wizard Saruman in the "Lord of the Ring" films, and the dude who fought Yoda with a lightsaber in "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones." What is your favorite Christopher Lee film?
Thanks to a Spokane charity, low-income families can get more out of their food stamps at local farmers markets. Fresh Bucks gives $2 to federal aid recipients for every $5 they spend at farmers markets in and around Spokane County. Sounds like a great idea to me!
Wednesday took me on a wild ride. Covered seniors learning how to juggle, met a woman from Peru, a tiny tot named Ben accused me of breaking his legos, interviewed a couple who've been married 66 years, hosted a dinner party and still managed to squeeze the old blog in.
Controversy is swirling around one of the Inland Northwest’s most prominent civil rights activists, with family members of Rachel Dolezal saying the local leader of the NAACP has been falsely portraying herself as black for years. Do you think these allegations have undermined Dolezal's ability to lead the NAACP?
A 37-year-old man named Liam Bennett from Wales has been developing something called a “dausage”, or doughnut-sausage. It’s a sausage full of jam. Don't think this will catch on in the U.S. But you never know. Wanna try it?
“The Sound of Music” is a beloved musical with upbeat classics like “Do-Re-Mi” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” The Modern Theater Coeur d’Alene delivers the classic with charm and vocal talent. Do you plan to see this?
ROCKPORT, Wash. – That didn’t take long. About 7 miles after I pulled away from the Anacortes Ferry Terminal, I met Kris Lytton, a legislator in the state House who represents the area. Good timing, since most of my anxieties about my 416-mile trip had dissolved under the sunshine and pleasant ride through this Puget Sound burg. All except one: What possibly could I write about day after day?
Yesterday EagleKeeper scoffed at the idea of cats being service animals. But cats have proven to be valuable therapy partners when paired with children with autism, elderly patients in nursing homes, as part of drug and alchohol rehabilitation programs etc. Read below and don't scoff at the power of the purr.
Seems like questions about Dolezal have been swirling around for quite awhile. Kurt Neumaier, former board member of the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations said he urged board members to go public with the concerns, but they refused. Why do you think so many people for so many years have kept quiet about their concerns re: Rachel Dolezal?
Um. Yep. That's the title of the book written by North Idaho Pachyderm Club member Steve Novak. He will speak on the topic at tomorrow's breakfast. Thoughts?
Walkabout posted this photo in yesterday's Wild Card. She wrote, "Litterbugs are swarming early this year. I got out on Tubbs Hill early this morning and found so much trash I couldn't carry it all. This is just one spot, I believe I collected at least 2 trash cans full today."
COEUR d'ALENE - Shoshone County Sheriff's Office deputy J.D. Allen got punched in the face by a drunk at the beach Tuesday night. Allen, who was off-duty, pulled an "extremely intoxicated" man from Lake Coeur d'Alene in Harrison after the man had been struggling in the water while swimming.
In today's column, I write about spending time in bookstores. I'm glad to say the ones I've been in appear to be thriving. Two questions: When is the last time you were in a bookstore? Do you have a favorite bookstore?
The public is invited to attend the dedication of the 8-foot bronze statue of Pappy Boyington on Saturday, June 13, 2015. The ceremony will begin at 8:00pm, at the Coeur d’Alene Airport, Resort Aviation parking lot at Wyoming Ave & Airport Rd. Anyone remember the TV show "Baa Baa Blacksheep" in which Robert Conrad played Pappy Boyington? My dad loved that show.
Prosecutors want to hide two witnesses behind a screen in an upcoming terrorism trial in Boise and allow them to testify using made-up names, the Idaho Statesman reports today. The two FBI informants or their families could face retaliation from backers of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan if they testified openly, prosecutors say, and revealing their identities also could compromise other cases.
COEUR d'ALENE - She's risen from North Idaho civil rights champion to positions of power in Spokane as a self-described black woman. But what if Rachel Dolezal is really white? Dolezal, chair of Spokane's Office of Police Ombudsman Commission and president of the city's chapter of the NAACP, has made claims in the media and elsewhere about her ethnicity, race and background that are contradicted by her biological parents.
Looks like NAACP Spokane chapter president Rachel Dolezal will top the local news today. You may remember she was onced employed by the HREI in Cda and reported several threatening incidents. Now, KXLY has launched an investigation into her most recent report of hate mail and uncovered some troubling questions.
Quite the surprising sight in the east wing corridor of the state Capitol this afternoon as a couple of reporters strolled in: A 2-foot slab of marble wainscoting trim lay smashed on the floor in many pieces, alongside a toddler, the assistant director of a local day care center, and a Capitol security officer.
Surprise, suprise, surprise.... Former state Sen. Russ Fulcher, R-Meridian, who ran unsuccessfully against Gov. Butch Otter in the GOP primary last year as Otter sought his third term as governor, has endorsed GOP U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo for re-election.
BILLINGS – A federal appeals court has struck down pollution rules intended to reduce haze from coal that is burned in Montana to provide electricity for people in the Pacific Northwest. Haze reduces visibility and is caused by tiny particles of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide.
