... That the Coeur d'Alene School Board will deal with two academic freedom issues tonight. As part of a review of all novels taught in the Coeur d'Alene School District, the board will hear an ad hoc committee recommendation that John Steinbeck's novel, "Of Mice and Men," be removed from required reading by all ninth graders. Instead, the book, according to the recommendation by the review committee, would be put on a list of books that can be read in small groups. Also, the board will consider a policy that would ban all R-rated movies from being aired in district schools, including those that have been editted for TV use.
